Mental health first aid (MHFA)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training that teaches you how to recognize the signs of mental health and substance use challenges and respond with confidence and care.

Similar to CPR or physical First Aid, MHFA prepares you to support someone in crisis or distress until professional help is available or the situation improves. You’ll learn a simple, proven 5-step action plan to listen nonjudgmentally, offer reassurance, assess risk, and connect people to appropriate support.

MHFA is evidence-based, widely used across the U.S., and designed to help everyday people respond early, reduce stigma, and make a real difference, while also strengthening their own resilience and self-care skills.

This course can be taught in one 8-hour day, broken up into two 4-hour days, or a 6 hour in-person class with 2 hours of self-paced prework. The training can be virtual over Zoom or in the Tacoma, Washington area. I’m willing to travel to King County, Pierce County, and surrounding counties.
